What Are Cool Toned Colors in Interior Design

Definition

What Are Cool Colors? Cool colors are shades of green, blue, and purple. The only primary cool color is blue, so any hue with a blue undertone is considered a cool color. They’re called cool colors, as opposed to warm colors, because they are evocative of water. Warm colors, on the other hand, evoke thoughts of fire.

When and How to Use Cool Toned Colors when Interior Designing

When designing, it’s important to know when to use certain colors and how you want your layout to feel. Blues usually tend to instill confidence, peace, and calmness so blues work well in bedrooms or bathrooms. In recent trends, we find more cool-toned interiors during these winter months.

One thing you can do is to start with a neutral background such as white, gray, or beige. Keeping things on the light side and working out from there is a smart choice. Using creamy neutrals and hints of blues and greys can create a very peaceful canvas and who wouldn’t want to have that in their home?

A tip when designing for these winter months is keeping your usual designs but switching out décor with more cool-toned statement pieces. This look can be achieved with pillows, flower vases, coffee table décor, and even just sheets on your bed!
