MODERN DESIGN VS. CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

Many struggle with the difference between modern design and contemporary design. They are both known to be sleek and popular looks of the present, but there are definite distinctions between the two. This blog will help explain both of these styles. Here is what you need to know!

Let’s begin with the modern style of interior design. Modern is a definite style, meaning that it has a distinct place in history. This type of design was formed and made popular between the 1920’s and 1950’s. This style is shown with straight lines, neutral colors, airy furniture, and minimalistic shapes. The function and form of the space are highlighted rather than the decoration of the room.

On the other hand, contemporary design is ever changing and does not have a specific style attached to it. Whatever is popular at the time that is being discussed is contemporary design. This also means that at one point in time, modern was contemporary.

To recap, modern design is a specific style of interior design. Contemporary design is what is popular in design at the time being discussed. A lot of the time they are confused because they usually both encompass airy and minimalistic looks. Modern design is also very popular and is used a lot in contemporary work.
